Forty-three inches and growing

I was listening to a lecture on prayer on YouTube this morning as I worked on my prayer shawl for Tara (seems appropriate, doesn't it?), and the whole experience was just lovely. I enjoyed hearing about the healings that the lecturer described, and I enjoyed thinking of the aspects of prayer he explored, based on Jesus' teaching that effective healing involves faith, prayer and fasting.

I feel as though I'm coming down the home stretch now on this shawl for Tara. So glad to see it taking shape.

I feel as though I'm coming down the home stretch now on this shawl for Tara. So glad to see it taking shape.

Toward the end of the lecture, I decided to measure the shawl, and it's now 43 inches long. The final length of the main body will be about 57 inches, and then I'll knit braided borders for each end, which will add a few inches, so the final measurement will be about 60 inches. I feel now that I'm within striking distance, and that feels really good. I hope it brings Tara much comfort.

Today, some of my friends in the prayer shawl group I knit with, the Compassion Knits, will be gathering at their church, Bound Brook Presbyterian Church, to knit shawls that will go to the owners of the homes in Appalachia that the church's teenagers and men will repair this summer. This Appalachian Service Project is something the church does every year, and I have promised to knit a shawl for them. In fact, I thought this blue shaw I am working on would be for them, but I needed it for Tara, so I will make the ASP another one. It would be lovely to be knitting with my friends, but I'm working today.

Instead, I'll be going to the Llama Shearing Fest at Woods Edge in Stockton, where I will be interviewing Brent Walker and his partner, Amy, about their plans for the farm and making a video about the shearing. That's something to look forward to! And I feel good about doing it. It will be a story for Monday's paper.

I start today with a full heart, with gratitude for so much good in my life. And gratitude for you, my readers. Enjoy the day as much as I am going to!
